Playing With Paper

This deeper dive into the pleasure of creating with and on paper brought me great joy, a joy I was delighted to share. Full of things made on, and with, handmade paper as well as from wood (the major source of that paper) it was also a celebration of summer, of both the playful and the mysterious, and of the messy imperfection of this world.

My journey in paper making rekindled my interest in the daily Japanese meditation practice of Enso. The exhibition featured a finely balanced table for the practice of Enso, as well as an interactive Enso practice station and a small series of Enso practice "reminders."  Often referred to as the "art of imperfection," Enso is the practice of drawing a circle in a single, fluid brushstroke, within the span a single breath.
